THE FANFARE ORCHESTRA

The Fanfare Orchestra consists of former members of the Engineers Regiment who performed in the band during 1952 - 1985.  At present there are 63 fanfare musicians who greatly enjoy making music together. The friendly and colleague-like atmosphere, combined with a healthy dose of Engineers Regiment chauvinism, all help to make it one big family. The strong, social bond between the members is clearly evident.

Under the supervision of the Director of Music Peter Poel, music of all categories is rehearsed.  Although music of a military nature (marches) forms an important part of the repertoire, a fiery piece of Brazilian music, a sprightly polka, popular contemporary horn music or serious classical works, can also be found in the general repertoire.

From the start-up, the band (mainly) concentrated on outdoor performances at military parades, outdoor concerts or to participate in street parades and festivities. However, in the past years, besides performing nationally, the band has also received requests to perform at international music events.

In 2003 for example, the band performed during the Tattoo “Stade de Lens” together with military bands from other countries such as Bulgaria, Greece, Italy and France.  This was an unforgettable experience. (For 2004) Invitations were received for various performances. Due to re-organization plans among the professional orchestras in the defense organization, we are receiving more and more requests to play a part in ceremonies defense departments.

For the future, the band is also seriously contemplating undertaking (gala) concerts.

Here are a few ‘photos taken during the repetitions which take place once or twice a month on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lunette Barracks in Vught, the band’s home base.
